Safety Manager Examination and Operation Manager Examination

The Safety Manager Examination and the Ship Operation Manager Examination are required to obtain the Safety Manager Qualification Certificate under Article 32-3, Paragraph 1 and the Ship Operation Manager Qualification Certificate under Article 32-7, Paragraph 1 of the Maritime Transportation Act (Act No. 187 of 1949). There are no eligibility requirements for taking these exams.

Notes
Scheduling
- Reservations can be made from 60 days before the test date to at least 3 business days before the test date. If the test date is a Saturday or Sunday, the deadline is 4 business days before the test date. Reservation and payment deadlines and fees vary depending on the payment method, so please check "Deadlines and Fees by Payment Method".
- You will not be able to make changes to Scheduling unless Test Fee has been paid.
- Reservations and changes can be made during the reservation period. However, test subjects cannot be changed.
- Seating at each Test Center is limited. If you have a desired Test Center, please complete your reservation as soon as possible.
- Test Center are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so you may not be able to reserve your desired Test Center.
- The test date differs depending on Test Center. Please note that Test Center may not hold exams depending on the date and time.
On the day of exam date
- Reception is open from 30 minutes to 15 minutes before the start time of the exam. If you are late to the reception desk, you will not be able to take the test, so please arrive with plenty of time to spare.
- You will be required to present the designated Identification Document on the exam date. If you cannot present it, you will not be able to take the test. In this case, Test Fee will not be refunded.

If you do not have a Prometric ID, please create one first.
If you have Prometric ID that starts with JP, you can use it for all exams, so please log in and proceed with your reservation.
Login/Reservation/Change
- Reservations and changes can be made up to three business days before the test date. If the test date is on a weekend, reservations and changes can be made up to four business days before the test date. Reservation and payment deadlines and fees vary depending on the payment method, so please check "Deadlines and Fees by Payment Method."
Testing Accommodations
If you require reasonable accommodation to take the test, you must apply in advance before Scheduling Test.

Test Result
Test Result notification
Test Result will be displayed on the screen after the test is completed. We will also provide you with a score report via email.

Certificate of passing
If you pass this exam
Simply passing the exam will not grant you a Safety Manager Certificate or a Flight Operations Manager Certificate. To obtain the certificate, you will need to submit your score report or the certificate of passing, which will be mailed to you later (expected to be sent in about a month), along with documents certifying your legally required work experience, to a Regional Transport Bureau, etc. Applications for this can be made 12 business days after the day following the exam. If you do not pass the main exam
If you do not pass the exam, the word "Fail" will be displayed on the screen at the end of the exam and on your score report. No other documents will be mailed to you.
Retake Policy
There is no limit to the number of times you can take the exam. If you are taking the test again, you will be able to make a reservation from the day after the test date, so please complete your reservation and payment from your Prometric My Page and take the test.
